Tibble Fork - June 2008

Illryion on Jul 9th 2008

On the weekend of June 28th we decided to go camping. Initially, we had planned on driving down to Levan Canyon to camp - my parents had recently gone camping there and suggested we check it out. However, as we got ready to leave, my friend Ryan called me and insisted we meet him in Tibble Fork, up American Fork Canyon.

After taking it under brief consideration, we decide to do just that. Ryan gave me directions to the site where he had camped before and we headed up the canyon. After driving several miles to the end of the Tibble Fork road, we came to the campsite, which reached via a river crossing, Unfortunately, .several families were already camped at the site. After talking to Ryan - we had full cell coverage strangely enough - we headed 1/2 mile back down the main road to a side track heading south-east where there was supposedly a “site under construction”. This site was pretty rough and small, so small in fact that we passed right by it on the way up…I continued another 1/2 mile or so up the road, and didn’t see any site, so called Ryan to determine what to do. After talking to him and deciding to head back down the road, Annie wanted to drive up the hill just a little bit further, which proved to be the right decision. Just up the hill and around the corner, we found a perfect huge site.

The weekend was a lazy one, we did very little besides sit around and drink beer, but it was a nice change from the fast pace of many trips we take. It was a perfect spot for the dogs, and gives us a nice close option when we want to go camping. I think we’ll take advantage of it again soon.

day eight

neal cassady.

In his later years
he seemed to carry
an indescribable air of sadness
in his eyes
as if that
“whole mad swirl”
had finally taken its’ toll
and his words
moved slower
than they had before
and sentences collapsed

neal, man
the whole world was caught up
in the flames that consumed you
at times it seemed you’d burn forever
that white heat that only
messiahs and
maniacs survive

your words
spoken
and written
bitter sweet trumpets blaring
those ragged restless conversations
snippets streaming out car windows
and crazed gatherings where
angel hipsters gather to blast

bop.bop.bop.

Comb Ridge/Cedar Mesa - May 2008 Day Four

Illryion on Jun 8th 2008

Sunday was to be our final hiking day, and we decided to head to a spot I’d been looking forward to visiting for quite some time. The Citadel is a ruin that sits on a peninsula jutting out into Road Canyon. The hike is about 4 or 5 miles round trip with a bit of scrambling and routefinding. Directions to these ruins are pretty easy to find to on the interweb if one is so inclined.

Based on the location the ruins, one would assume that there’s some defensive reasoning for it, but who really knows. All anyone can do is guess…regardless, It is a pretty fantastic ruin and a fun hike.

This was the end of the day, and really the trip. After finishing our hike here, we returned to Bluff, Ut and spent the night at Recapture Lodge, whose pool was quit rewarding after being in the sun and sand for four long days. Monday morning we made the long drive back to Salt Lake City.
